Obama Says Nuclear Deal Prevents Iran Obtaining Weapons

US President Barack Obama said that the nuclear agreement with Iran would “prevent it [Iran] from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” in a speech at the White House on July 14.

“This deal demonstrates that American diplomacy can bring about real and meaningful change … In our time, the risk is that nuclear weapons will spread to more and more countries, particularly in the Middle East, the most volatile region in our world,” he said.

“Today, because America negotiated from a position of strength and principle, we have stopped the spread of nuclear weapons in this region.”
