Palestinian Flag Flies at United Nations

The Palestinian flag was raised for the first time at the United Nations on September 30. The UN General Assembly approved earlier this month the flying of two non-member flags — the Vatican and Palestine. The Holy See flag was raised when Pope Francis spoke at the United Nations on September September 25.

The Palestinian flag was raised as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the United Nations General Assembly. Abbas said Palestine no longer will abide by the Oslo Peace Accords because Israel has violated its side of the agreement. Israel needs to assume full responsibility of being an occupying power, he said. Credit: Instagram/ayunabatoeva
