Paris Elects First Female Mayor

Socialist Anne Hidalgo was elected the first female mayor of Paris in the municipal elections on March 30. Hidalgo provided a much needed bright light for the leading party amid widespread gains for the centre-right Union for a Popular Movement. Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Front also made large gains taking at least four towns.
