Phone Records of Law-Abiding Americans 'None of [Nsa's] Damn Business,' Rand Paul Says

US Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, released a campaign video on Saturday, May 30, in which he urged expiration of the Patriot Act, passed following the September. 11, 2001 attacks, which is set for midnight Sunday if the Senate doesn’t renew it. That would mean the National Security Agency no longer would have legal standing for broad surveillance of Americans.

The Senate earlier this week didn’t act on a compromise bill passed by the House that would have allowed the NSA to retain some surveillance.

“Tomorrow, I will force the expiration of the NSA illegal spy program,” the Republican presidential candidate said in a statement, which was first reported by Politico.

In order to achieve his aim, Paul would have to stop Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a fellow Kentucky Republican, from expediting debate on the USA Freedom Act, the Washington Post reported.
