Police Face Down Refugee-Supporters at Berlin Anti-Immigrant Rally

Police clashed with migrant-supporters in Berlin on Saturday, November 7, who had turned out for a counter-protest against an anti-immigrant march organised by the populist nationalist party Alternative for Germany (AfD). Some 5,000 AfD supporters marched through Berlin, calling for German chancellor Angela Merkel to resign with chants of ‘Merkel must go’.

According to local reports, there were several arrests as police struggled to separate the two protests, using pepperspray and batons against migrant-supporters, who tried to break through police lines and block the AfD march.
