Police Fire Tear Gas During Recife Protest

Storyful

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters in the World Cup city Recife, on June 17. The demonstrations were against a proposed construction project called ‘Novo Recife,’ which would see several new buildings developed in the area. Protesters believe the community has been largely left out of discussions around the development of the region.
