Pope Addresses Climate Change, Education Equality, Immigration at United Nations

Pope Francis touched on equality in education, climate change and the refugee crisis during his remarks before the United Nations on September 25. His comments about how some countries do not allow girls to be educated came as Malala Yousafzai also was scheduled to appear. His comments echoed those he made before Congress the previous day.

Francis’ speech and visit to the United Nations came on a full day in New York. Following his appearance at the UN, he visited the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum for an interfaith prayer service. He is scheduled to take part in a papal parade in Central Park before celebrating Mass at Madison Square Garden.

The pope’s six-day trip is his first to the United States. He landed in Washington, D.C., on September 22. In addition to his speech before Congress, he also visited the White House and met privately with President Barack Obama. He completes his trip in Philadelphia this weekend while taking part in the World Meeting of Families. Credit: YouTube/United Nations
