Protesters, Riot Police Clash in Istanbul After Suruc Bombing

Riot police used water cannons and stun grenades against protesters in central Istanbul on Monday evening, July 20, to disperse a large-scale rally blocking Istiklal Avenue. Thousands marched through the busy shopping street, demonstrating after a terror attack killed at least 30 people and wounded many more in Suruc, close to the Syrian border, earlier in the day.

According to one reporter at the protest, speakers were condemning “AKP complicity” in the attack, suspected to have been carried out by Islamic State.
