Protests in Washington State Over Police-Involved Shooting

Protesters were out in Washington State’s capital, Olympia, on May 21, after a white police officer shot two unarmed black men who were reportedly shoplifting beer. Andre Thompson, 24, and Bryson Chaplin, 21, were in critical condition after being shot by Officer Ryan Donald in the early hours of May 21, when he responded to a shoplifting call at a Safeway store.

Donald was put on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal police investigation into the matter.
