Putin Calls Turkey Downing Plane a 'Stab in the Back'

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet on the Turkish-Syrian border will have “significant consequences” for relations between Russian and Turkey. He said the fighter jet was “delivering preventive blows at terrorists,” and described Turkey’s action as a “stab in the back delivered by terrorists’ accomplices.”

Putin was speaking during a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Moscow. A full English transcript is provided here by the Kremlin. Credit: Kremlin
