Pyjama-Clad Shepparton Mayor Protests for More Train Services

Residents of Shepparton, Victoria’s fifth-largest city, have staged a pyjama protest to demand improved rail services to Melbourne. Protesters, including the city’s mayor, donned their pyjamas on the 6.31am V/Line service to Southern Cross Station and protested on the steps of State Parliament on Spring Street.

Shepparton, approximately 181 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, is connected to the state capital by only four trains per day, with just three daily services making the return journey. Protesters said the lack of services impedes residents’ daily commute to Melbourne, which exacerbates unemployment in the regional city, according to The Age.
