Russian Authorities Douse Wildfires in Siberia

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Tuesday, April 14, that the wildfires sweeping across Russia’s southern Siberian republic of Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk city and the Transbaikal region were contained. The wildfires broke out in Khakassia on Sunday, April 12, and spread to villages and settlements nearby.

Local reports quoted the Ministry of Health of the Republic saying at least 15 people were killed, around 5,000 people were affected and more than 1,200 homes were damaged in the fire.
