#Sayhername Vigil Remembers Black Women Who Died in Police Custody

Activists gathered in New York City’s Union Square on May 20 to remember black woman who have died while they were in police custody. The names of the women who died were read aloud and their stories told.

The vigil came on the heels of a report from the African American Policy Forum that told the stories of black women who had died while in police custody. “Black women are all too often unseen in the national conversation about racial profiling, police brutality, and lethal force,” said Andrea J. Ritchie, co-author of the report, said in a statement. Credit: Twitter/Rachel Chapman
