Seattle May Day March Takes on Police Violence

Hundreds of protesters marched in Seattle to celebrate May Day on May 1. This video shows a portion of the march. The yearly march usually focuses on marcher and immigrant rights, according to local media. This year there was also a focus on police violence against black men.

The protest came the same day six Baltimore, Maryland, police officers were charged with murder, manslaughter and assault in the death of Freddie Gray. Gray suffered critical injuries during his April 12 arrest and died a week later. It sparked a police investigation and protests, which turned to unrest on April 27 that prompted the activation of the Maryland National Guard and the imposition of a curfew.
