Secular Party Calls for Strike After Police Raid on Karachi HQ

Businesses in parts of Karachi shut their doors on Wednesday, March 11, after a police raid on the headquarters of the secular MQM political party. One person was killed during the raid, several suspected criminals were arrested, and weapons were seized, according to reports. It is not clear who fired the fatal shots.

MQM called for a city-wide strike over the police actions, prompting businesses to close their doors. However, businesses in some neighborhoods continued trading, showing up the divisions in the city, a report in One Pakistan said. Credit: YouTube/Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
