Shelling on Derik in Southern Turkey Threatens PKK Ceasefire

Turkish news media reported shelling in the town of Derik, approximately 80km south of Diyarbakir, on November 30, the sixth day of a tense ceasefire between PKK fighters and government forces in the predominantly Kurdish region. The clashes follow the killing of influential Kurdish rights advocate Tahir Elci on Saturday. Elci was shot dead during a press conference in Diyarbakir. His death led to widespread protests.
