ShellNo Protests Continue in Seattle Against Arctic Drilling

ShellNo protests continued on May 18 against Shell’s Arctic drilling program in Seattle, Washington. Hundreds of protesters walked across the Spokane Street Bridge before arriving at where Shell is keeping its fleet of drilling rigs at the Port of Seattle. A rally that featured music and dancing followed the march. There were no arrests nor was traffic blocked, according to local reports.

The port’s decision to allow Shell to keep its drilling rigs there has sparked protests. Kayakers held a floating protest on May 16 around the rigs. The Seattle City Council also has passed a resolution stating the lease violates the terms of using the terminal as a cargo terminal.
