Shooting of Protesters Doesn't Stop Hundreds Marching for Jamar Clark

Hundreds of protesters gathered for a rally and then a march in Minneapolis on Tuesday, November 24, one day after three suspects opened fire on Black Lives Matter activists protesting at the Minneapolis Police Department’s 4th Precinct. Five people were injured in the shooting. Following the rally at the police precinct, the group marched to downtown Minneapolis.

Activists have been holding a continuous protest at the precinct since the police-involved shooting of Jamar Clark more than a week ago, calling for the release of a video of the incident. Clark was shot on Sunday, November 15, after police responded to an assault in which he was the suspect. Police claim he was interfering with emergency responders who were treating the victim when he was shot. Activists claim Clark was handcuffed at the time of the shooting.

Black Lives Matter Minneapolis posted on Facebook that they would still hold Tuesday’s rally. “We will not be scared. We will not be intimidated. We demand justice,” the post said.

Police arrested two of three suspects on Tuesday involved in the shooting. One is a 23-year-old white man, and the second is a 32-year-old Hispanic man. Police had not yet released their identities, and authorities are considering if they should charge the men with a hate crime.
