Sinn Féin Calls for Additional £1.5 Billion for Northern Ireland

Sinn Féin called for an additional £1.5 billion in funding for Northern Ireland at the publication of its election manifesto on April 20. Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said, “A new budget is required to end austerity, and we need the fiscal powers necessary to determine our own economic policy.” The party’s president, Gerry Adams, called for a “separate and binding” referendum on EU membership for Northern Ireland.

Sinn Fein practices abstentionism, and elected members do not take their seats in parliament.
