Six-Year-Old Girl Dies After Rescue From Sailboat Near Azores

The Portuguese Air Force and Navy rescued people from five sailboats that encountered a severe storm in the waters south of Azores Islands on Thursday, May 7. One of them, a French boat, sank and left a family of four in the water. Reports said the mother and nine-year-old son climbed onto a lifeboat, while the father and six-year-old daughter floated in the sea for around seven-and-a-half hours.

The four were rescued from the sea but the girl was suffering from hypothermia and later died. Video shows the Portuguese Air Force hoisting people up from a lifeboat. Credit: YouTube/Portuguese Air Force
