South Carolina Flooding Leaves Damage in Its Wake

Widespread flooding in Columbia, South Carolina, started receding on October 6, but roads remained impassable and thousands were left without power and water. At least five people died in Columbia since October 4, when the rain peaked, according to local media. At least 11 died across the state, though the numbers have fluctuated among sources.

These videos, mainly shot on October 4, show the flooding throughout Columbia.

More than 16 inches of rain fell in the Columbia area on Sunday, and dams breached as they were overloaded due to the massive amount of water. The Lowland, south of Columbia and including Charleston, experienced two feet of rain over several days. People have been evacuated from their homes and, in some cases, needed rescue.
