South Carolina Residents Use Canoes to Navigate Flooding

A storm that dropped nearly two feet of rain on Charleston, South Carolina, moved inland and drenched Columbia on October 4. The storm dropped about a foot of rain on the state’s capital city, triggering massive flooding, according to local media.

The flooding caused roads, including interstate highways, to be closed. Gills Creek flooded its surrounding neighborhood and swamped nearby businesses. Authorities advised people to stay home, though some had to be evacuated as the floodwater rose in their neighborhoods.
