Summer Snow Falls on Hawaii's Mauna Kea Summit

Summer snow is rather unusual but it is even more strange when it takes place in Hawaii. Around 1.5 to two inches of snow fell on Hawaii’s Mauna Kea Summit on Sunday, July 19. This webcam video captures the overnight snow.

Local weather center warned about the unpredictable weather on the summit in a statement: “A calm sunny day may quickly become treacherous with hurricane force winds and blizzard conditions. Snowstorms have even occurred during the summer months.” Credit: Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope
