Syrian Migrants Taken to Italy by Irish Navy

An Irish navy vessel rescued up to 400 people from migrant boats in the Mediterranean on June 16, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported. The people, who left Syria “in search of safety” in Europe, were taken to southern Italy. Around 112,000 people have made the crossing in 2015 with up to 9,000 arriving in Italy during the past two weeks alone, according to the UNHCR.
