Syrian Rebels Use Nazi Howitzer in Idlib

Footage posted by the Islamic Front appears to show rebels on May 17 using a World War II-era Nazi Howitzer. This is the first documented use of the weapon in the four-year-old Syrian conflict, according to German newspaper Bild. The video shows members of Ahrar ash-Sham, a primary constituent group in the Islamic Front, advancing on the Assad-controlled city of Ariha, Idlib province.

In August 2012, another rebel group, Al-Tawhid Brigade, released a video showing a cache of Nazi-era assault rifles, called StG 44s, as the Washington Post reports. Credit: YouTube/The Islamic Front
