Teen Shot by Off-Duty St. Louis Police Officer Remembered

Protesters remembered VonDerrit Myers Jr, a teenager who was fatally shot by an off-duty St. Louis police officer in October 2014, during a weekend of events marking the anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson.

Myers’ shooting death was a few months after Brown’s death, which sparked protests and unrest in Ferguson last August. People gathered where Myers was shot on Saturday, August 8, holding a rally and march to remember the teen, according to local media.

Events are scheduled throughout the weekend to commemorate the anniversary of Brown’s death on August 9, 2014. Brown’s death, and the ensuing protests, are considered to be the start of the Black Lives Matter movement, which calls for criminal justice reform. Credit: Instagram/Annie Wildfong
