Thousands Flee Iraqi City of Mosul Following ISIL Seizure

Thousands of Iraqis reportedly fled the northern city of Mosul following the assault and takeover of the town by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on June 10. According to the UN, up to 500,000 Iraqis were displaced by the violence in the city. This video, from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), shows a mass exodus of Iraqis from the city.

“Many of the displaced left their homes without belongings and some lack money for housing, food, water or medical care,” state the UNHCR. “They arrive at checkpoints between Nineveh governorate and the Kurdistan region with no idea of where to go next, or how to pay expenses.” Credit: YouTube/UNHCR
