Thousands of Migrants Await Registration Papers at Greek-Macedonian Border

Tens of thousands of migrants and refugees have made their way to the Gevgelija train station in Macedonia in recent weeks to attempt crossing the Greek-Macedonian border. Macedonian government restrictions require registration papers from authorities before crossing; however, with only 2,200 people being registered per day, thousands are left stranded, sleeping in the street as they wait.

UNHCR says it is working with the government to improve registration, and to build a “waiting area” with better conditions near the train station. Credit: YouTube/United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
