Thousands Rally for Workers' Rights in Hamburg

Thousands of protesters took to the streets across Germany to mark Labour Day, on May 1, with rallies led by trade unions highlighting the impact of economic globalization on local workers. Among the issues raised were dwindling job security, temporary employment, and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, which many Europeans fear will pave the way to hollowing out environment regulations and force privatization.

These videos show the Hamburg rally under the motto, “We design the work of the future,” at which police estimated at least 3,500 protesters had gathered by the afternoon. Organizers pegged the turnout at 5,000, according to reports. Credit: Twitter/Dennis Schulz/@DerSchulze
