Thousands Reject Houthi Government Takeover in Taiz

Hundreds of people took part in rallies across Yemeni city of Taiz on February 14 to reject a recent government takeover by the Houthi rebel group, and to mark the fourth anniversary of the country’s uprising in February 2011 which saw the toppling of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The Houthi rebels, who follow a branch of Shia Islam known as Zaidism, forced the resignation of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah on January 22 following the group’s takeover of the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
