Thousands Throng Streets of Simferopol for Victory Day Parade

Thousands of people turned out to watch the Victory Day parade, marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, in Crimea’s Simferopol on May 9. Crimea was annexed by Russia in March, after the toppling of the Ukrainian government in Kiev.

Similar parades were held throughout Russia, as the largest military parade since the Soviet Union took place in Moscow. Crowds also cheered on pro-Russian fighters as they marched in the military parade in the city of Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
