Timelapse: Charlestown Navy Yard Prepares for USS Constitution

Dry Dock 1 at Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard was flooded on Sunday, May 17, in preparation for the entry of the USS Constitution, nicknamed “Old Ironsides.” America’s oldest floating commissioned warship will undergo a two-year restoration process in the dock, but the top deck will be open to the public starting June 9.

Dry Dock one holds 4.8 million gallons, according to the USS Constitution Museum, and this timelapse shows it flooded in only 30 seconds. Credit: YouTube/USS Constitution Museum
