Tropical Storm Killed 20, Dominica Prime Minister Says

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit addressed the nation on August 28 after Tropical Storm Erika battered the island nation earlier this week. “The extent of the devastation is monumental. It is far worse than expected,” he said. “It is true that many communities like Petite Savanne, Delices and Coulibistrie have been swamped and are still cut off from the rest of Dominica, but nearly every community has been hit.”

The prime minister confirmed that 20 people died from the storm. Skerrit also said the storm had set back development in Dominica by 20 years but he vowed to rebuild. Credit: Facebook/Roosevelt Skerrit
