Typhoon Goni Batters Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan

Typhoon Goni moved north on Tuesday morning, August 25, battering Japan’s southern island of Kyushu with winds up to 124 mph (200 km/h). Heavy rain also affected the southern tip of Honshu Island, with more than four inches (11 centimeters) of rainfall recorded in one hour in the city of Shimonoseki. Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued warnings for landslides, floods, storm surges and tornadoes across much of Kyushu and southern Honshu.
