Typhoon Nangka Heads Toward Japan

The outer bands of Typhoon Nangka were bringing heavy rain to Japan on Thursday, July 16, as the storm headed for a landfall on Shikoku island over the next few hours. Nangka failed to gain strength as expected, but is still packing powerful winds on its way to shore.

The storm may give Japan two strikes – after Friday’s landfall, Nangka is forecast to cross into the Sea of Japan and turn northeast – making a second landfall on northern Honshu island. Credit: Japan Meteorological Agency
