UN Appeals for Support as Number of Syrian Refugees Passes 4 Million

United Nations figures released on July 9 said the number of Syrian refugees had exceeded four million, making it “the world’s single largest refugee crisis for almost a quarter of a century.”

Khaled Hosseini, author of the critically acclaimed novel The Kite Runner, spent several days visiting Syrian refugees in Jordan’s Za’atari and Arzak camps in May 2015.
