UN Documents Arrival of Migrant and Refugee Boats to Lesbos

New refugee and migrant boats arrived to the Greek island of Lesbos on October 11. The UNHCR said that the total number of refugees and migrants to have crossed the Mediterranean this year is close to 530,000. In September alone, 168,000 people crossed the Mediterranean, the highest monthly figure ever recorded and almost five times the number in September 2014.

Lesvos News reported the visit of UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres to the island, and highlighted the cooperation between the UNHCR and the Greek authorities.
