UN Peacekeeping Chief Says Sexual Abuse by Peacekeepers ‘Intolerable’

Hervé Ladsous, the head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the UN, said that sexual abuse on the part of UN peacekeepers is “absolutely intolerable" in remarks published on August 25. Ladsous was responding to allegations of sexual abuse, including rape, against UN peacekeepers in Central African Republic.

Ladsous said that incidents of sexual violence in UN missions were a sign of leadership failure and stressed that it was policy to send home not just the immediate culprits but also commanding officers. Credit: United Nations
