In UNGA Speech, Rouhani Criticizes Saudi Arabia Over Hajj Stampede

In his address the UN General Assembly on September 28, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani criticized what he called the “incompetence and mismanagement” of Saudi officials in response to the deadly stampede outside Mecca on September 24 that left hundreds of people dead.

Rouhani said the Saudi government had to “provide the needed circumstances for independent and deep investigation into the causes of this calamity and how to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future,” according to a report of his remarks on the website of the Iranian presidency.
