UNHCR Says More Than 4 Million Syrians Have Become Refugees

The UNHCR said in the latest figures released on Thursday, July 9, that more than four million Syrians have fled their country and become refugees in neighboring countries. This video features the story of Ivra, a 13-year-old girl who was forced to leave her home because of fighting in Kobani, Syria. Ivra now lives in Turkey’s Suruc Refugee Camp, which is also home to more than 25,000 Syrian refugees.

“This is the biggest refugee population from a single conflict in a generation. It is a population that deserves the support of the world but is instead living in dire conditions and sinking deeper into abject poverty,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
