Tarek Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian-American teenager who was allegedly beaten while in Israeli police custody, spoke to the press about his ordeal after a court hearing on July 6. “They hit me, and then kept hitting and then I fell asleep and then I woke up in the hospital,” said Khdeir, who said he did not know who attacked him, but that he thinks “it was the police”.
Khdeir was ordered to pay bail and was placed under house arrest for 10 days. He was also barred from entering Shuafat, a Palestinian Arab neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, for 15 days, according to news reports. The 15-year-old was detained by Israeli authorities following protests over the killing of his cousin, 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir. Credit: YouTube/addameer Association
