IS Video Shows Bombing of 11th Century Shrine in Iraq

The media arm of the Islamic State in Salah ad-din, Iraq, released footage on November 26 showing fighters destroying a number of Shia Muslim shrines, including one that dates back to the 11th century.

The video, titled Demolishing Idols, shows fighters entering the 11th-century Imam Dur shrine and planting a bomb, an incident first reported in October. The destruction was condemned by UNESCO Director-General as “cultural cleansing” and a “war crime”.
