Violence over wage dispute in SAfrican wine region

A standoff between striking farm labourers in South Africa’s wine growing region and police turned violent when rocks were thrown. Police responded by firing rubber bullets, injuring some and arresting others. The dispute started over a month ago with union leaders describing current pay rates as no more than “hunger wages”.
