Wildfire Continues to Burn in Kootenays

A wildfire near Nelson, British Columbia, reached more than 470 acres on July 6, and an evacuation alert is in place. The alert is in place because of erratic wind patterns, local reports state, though no structures are threatened at this time. The fire first started on July 4 in the hills on the west side of Kootenay Lake, and the fire and smoke can be seen from the city itself on the east side.
