Wildfires Scorch Thousands of Acres on Korcula, Croatia

The Croatian government has deployed helicopters and water planes to tackle wildfires sweeping through the Peljesac peninsula and across Korcula island. More than 1,900 acres were burned and several properties destroyed by July 22 since fires were sparked on July 18.

Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic visited the island on July 21, telling reporters that greater preparedness was needed, and that those who had lost properties would be covered by insurance.
