World Food Programme Brings Aid to Cyclone-Hit Vanuatu

Cleanup and recovery efforts continued in Vanuatu after the category-5 Cyclone Pam devastated the island nation overnight on March 13-14. The World Food Programme (WFP) published this footage on March 23, showing the devastation wreaked across areas of Vanuatu by the storm. Families are seen living in the ruins of their homes, attempting to prepare food.

In the capital, Port Vila, a vessel is seen being loaded with food aid. A WFP spokeswoman, Victoria Cavanuagh, explains that, “WFP is supplementing the government’s food distribution to all affected people, over 160,000, in the next two weeks.” The final images are described as showing a “WFP plane from Dubai carrying generators, hygiene kits and other emergency supplies.” Credit: World Food Programme
