We're comparing two of the most popular choices in the compact-crossover segment, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. These two SUVs have both been around for decades, but how do they stack up in their current iterations?
In this test, we compared a 2024 RAV4 TRD Off-Road and a 2023 CR-V EX-L.
The EX-L is a nonhybrid CR-V, meaning it has a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four.
The upper trims are only available with the hybrid powertrain, and the lower trims come with the nonhybrid engine.
The turbo four produces 190 horsepower and uses a continuously variable automatic transmission.
We like the CR-V's pleasant interior, which has easy-to-use knobs and buttons.
The CR-V's cargo area is the more spacious of the two, holding more carry-on suitcases in our testing.
In this matchup, we preferred the CR-V for its well-rounded nature and spacious cabin.
The RAV4's naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine produces 203 horsepower.
The RAV4's interior looks more dated than the CR-V's but still has good ergonomics.
