The Great Wall Motor Company's Ora Funky Cat is a small car with quite the voluminous name. This spunky little EV hatchback is finally available in Europe, after being released initially in China. With decent range and performance, this spry little electric car feels pretty close to fully baked, although it's not all the way there just yet.
The Ora Funky Cat is an EV hatchback produced by Great Wall Motor Company in China and now on sale in Europe. We drove it in Germany, but there are no plans to sell it in the U.S.
In China it is called the Haomao, or Good Cat, but in Europe (and Israel) it is the Funky Cat. Ora's other models include the Lightning Cat and the Ballet Cat.
The Funky Cat's retro design seems to be channeling the look of the 1970s Porsche 911 Carrera at the front; it also gets some fake chrome switchgear.
The Funky Cat sits on Great Wall's L.E.M.O.N. platform—we promise we aren’t making that up—with all versions using a single front motor.
European models are rated at 169 horsepower.
The standard battery pack with an estimated 43.0 kilowatt-hours of usable capacity gives 193 miles of estimated range under the European WLTP testing protocol.
The Funky Cat supports conventional AC charging but can only manage DC fast-charging at rates of up to 80 kilowatts, which is poor by segment standards in Europe.
The Funky Cat is lighter than most rivals, with the standard car weighing 3395 pounds by Ora's measurements.
In Germany, pricing for the Ora Funky Cat starts at the equivalent of $35,700 at current exchange rates.
