Viewers were left stunned after a live Channel 4 News interview was rudely interrupted by two people brawling in the street.

The pair of angry passers-by hurled abuse at each other as they passed through the background of the TV interview, which featured on the news programme on Tuesday evening.

The two youngsters paused just within the camera shot and continued their argument, as one of the people arguing waved his arms in fury.

Daily Mail journalist Andrew Pierce, who was being quizzed by news host Cathy Newman outside the newspaper’s offices in Kensington , was drowned out by the din and appeared distracted as the noisy fight unfolded behind him.

“I’m terribly sorry about the distraction behind, can’t really help that one,” he tells the studio.

Fellow guest Dawn Foster, also a journalist, chuckled at the unscripted disturbance as presenter Ms Newman said: “There seems to be some sort of fight behind.”

After the segment ended, Ms Newman said: "I would like to apologise to viewers who might have picked up some bad language in the background, not from our guests but from the passing brawl going on."

Many viewers found the disruption hilarious, with people taking to Twitter calling it “fantastic TV”.

“The argument going on in the back of Channel 4 News debate with Daily Mail was classic,” one person called Charlie said.

Another person said: “The domestic going on behind the interviewee… brilliant.”
