Note: The following contains major spoilers for Vikings' fifth season.

Vikings has traumatised viewers this year with an ever-increasing body count. Unfortunately, the bodies will probably continue piling up!

Throughout the fifth season, the show has savagely killed off John Kavanagh's The Seer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Bishop Heahmund, Hvitserk's love Thora (Eve Connolly) and, most brutally, Asbjorn's family as the warring factions clashed.

As the season nears its end, Asbjorn actor Elijah Rowen has offered a dire prediction in a chat with Metro about even more shocking deaths to come.

"I think what they’ll do, and what they do for many series, is that you have to remember the final couple of episodes haven’t aired yet for Vikings," he hinted.

"So I think I got killed off in [episode] 17 – and you know in 19 a little bit bigger character might get killed again and then a lead character will probably get killed in 20."

The actor did clarify that he doesn't have any inside info, adding: "I don’t actually know, but if I know my writing, there will be a few deaths coming up – that would be my guess."

Any Vikings lucky enough to survive the season shouldn't rest too easily because it was recently announced that more massive battles are being set up for the sixth and final season.

There's also a spin-off in the works to continue the story of the warring Vikings beyond that point. That means there are lots more opportunities for shocking deaths to come!

Vikings airs on History in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
